Its steep, but very doable from the back.....ask any climber for tips, its how most descend.
This is my son Kevin, at age five. Climber rounding the top after a truely technical ascent, had a momentary jolt to see him sitting there, enjoying the view. After a moments reflection though, I'm sure they realized the group of us came up the back way.
Starting from where the Barker Dam trail first meets the Barker Dam *lake* (much easier to make this adventure when the lake is low or dry) you head straight on ahead, bearing to the left when first tempted to head straight for the huge mass of the astro domes. Then you do a zig-zag up to the top, with the first zig (or is it a zag) the steepest part. I had a bit of trouble pushing Kevin over this corner, as he was insisting he is afraid of heights. However, at age five, he made it to the top this way. Looking over the route from on high coming back down, its easier to see the best route to take back to Barker Dam. To bad we can't have this perspective when first planning a route! This one is a bit tricky, because the easiest way you actually loop back a bit to get to the big rock.
