This exquisite tree is the centerpiece of the JTNP Live Oak Picnic Area.
Even many locals somehow never make it to this tree and the dramatic canyon it lives in, passing up what at first seems like an ordinary picnic area. Again, many who do pull into the picnic area fail to go all the way to the end of the dirt road, and ever see this tree that the area is obviously named after. There are many delightful areas to explore right near the tree, and down the canyon are a couple of interesting dams from the cattle/mining days, although the reservoirs are long filled in with sand.
