A hike well worth taking, with the trail starting at the Willow Hole / Boy Scout Trail parking area along Quail Springs Road (the road into the Park from the town of Joshua Tree). At first the trail passes through a long flat, with only distant views of the large boulders and outcropping that JTNP is famous for. But soon the route enters a large wash, and passing through scenery as dramatic as any the Park offers.
Once, when I came here, there was actually a duck floating on this small pond.
